The Unirea newspaper appears in 1891, as a cultural and ecclesiastical paper, founded by a group of patriotic and enlightened intellectuals and priests. It was and remains a newspaper fighting for the unity and prosperity of the Romanians, militating for the Great Union of 1918, the unity and prosperity of the nation. It appeared until 1948, when it was banned. It reappears in 1968, in Alba Iulia, with the establishment of Alba County. It is an independent newspaper, politically equidistant, in the service of the citizen, being the newspaper with the largest circulation in Transylvania.
